San Luis Obispo County, CA – Authorities are investigating a head-on collision that left two people injured in San Luis Obispo County on Monday night, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.
The wreck happened at about 9:50 p.m. April 13, on Highway 166 near Pine Canyon Road, nearly 20 miles east of Santa Maria.
Preliminary reports indicate that a semi-truck hauling fuel was involved in the head-on collision with an oncoming semi-truck carrying produce. One of the big rigs was pushed to the side of the highway while the other had its cab detached.
Firefighters arrived at the scene shortly after receiving reports of the collision and attended to the involved drivers. The drivers were treated for minor injuries at the scene and none of them was transported to a hospital.
There was a fuel leak from at least one of the involved big rigs.
According to Caltrans District 5, Highway 166 was shut down for hours as authorities investigated and cleared the scene.
The California Highway Patrol officers also responded to the scene and gathered information and evidence. Investigations are ongoing to establish the exact cause of the collision.
