According to preliminary reports, a man was attempting to walk across the highway when he was hit by a vehicle that was traveling southbound.

San Francisco, CA – A pedestrian was hit and killed by a vehicle on Highway 101 near San Francisco International Airport late Thursday night, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The accident happened at around 11:14 p.m. July 16, on the highway north of South Airport Boulevard.
According to preliminary reports, a man was attempting to walk across the highway when he was hit by a vehicle that was traveling southbound.
The CHP responded to the scene shortly after receiving reports of the accident.
The pedestrian was declared deceased at the site of the collision. The victim’s identity was not immediately released.
The driver of the vehicle that hit the victim remained at the scene and was cooperative with law enforcement.
According to investigators, driving under the influence was not suspected to have played any role in the incident.
The highway was shut down for nearly two hours as authorities worked the scene. As of 1 a.m. on Friday, all lanes had been reopened.
The California Highway Patrol is still investigating to establish the exact circumstances of the accident.
