San Francisco, CA – One person was killed in a two-vehicle crash on the eastbound Bay Bridge early Saturday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The fatal collision was reported at approximately 4:05 a.m. on eastbound Interstate 80 just east of the Treasure Island off-ramp.
CHP officials said a Kia and an SUV were involved in the crash. Emergency responders said one person was killed as a result of the crash.
A dog that survived the crash was also found at the scene. Officers secured the animal and later transported it to Oakland Animal Services.
Responding officers reported major damage to the vehicles, with one vehicle sustaining extensive damage along the driver’s side.
The crash prompted a SigAlert at approximately 4:44 a.m., with lanes 1 through 4 blocked due to the collision. At one point, all eastbound lanes were temporarily closed while emergency crews worked at the scene and investigators processed evidence.
Tow trucks were called to remove the damaged vehicles, and Caltrans crews responded to conduct roadway cleanup and inspections before lanes were gradually reopened.
All units cleared the scene by approximately 7:57 a.m.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. No additional information about the victim has been released.
