According to the San Diego Police Department, one of their officers was driving down the road when he felt an impact. The officer stopped to investigate and found a man in the roadway.

San Diego, CA – A University of San Diego student died after he was struck by a San Diego police vehicle early Wednesday morning near the college campus.
The accident was reported around 1:30 a.m. on June 17, 2026, on Linda Vista Road near Goshen Street, in the area with student housing.
According to the San Diego Police Department, one of their officers was driving down the road when he felt an impact. The officer stopped to investigate and found a man in the roadway.
Paramedics responded to the scene and transported the victim, a student in his early 20s, to a nearby hospital, where he later died at about 3:35 a.m.
The identity of the student was not released pending family notification.
Police officers closed Linda Vista Road near the crash scene as they worked the scene. The roadway was reopened around 6:30 a.m.
SDPD’s Traffic Unit and Collision Investigations Bureau is working to establish the circumstances that led to the crash.
