San Diego, CA – Two police officers were injured when a DUI suspect struck them while they were investigating an unrelated collision Thursday night at an intersection in San Diego.

The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. on June 25, 2026, at 50th Street and El Cajon Boulevard in the Colina del Sol neighborhood.

According to the San Diego Police Department, officers were investigating a serious injury crash near the intersection and had both directions of El Cajon Boulevard at 50th Street closed using marked patrol cars with their emergency lights activated.

During the investigation, a 46-year-old man driving a Kia Soul eastbound approached the closure but failed to slow down and crashed into two patrol vehicles, then continued and hit two police sergeants.

The officers sustained minor injuries.

The Kia driver was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

Details about the initial crash that resulted in serious injuries were not available.

SDPD is investigating the accident.
