San Carlos, CA – A 14-year-old passenger was killed and a man injured after a vehicle lost control and hit a pedestrian on the sidewalk, before crashing into a tree in San Carlos on Sunday morning.

According to the San Diego Police Department, the accident took place just after 11:35 a.m. May 3, on Navajo Road near Golfcrest Drive.

Investigations revealed that a 35-year-old woman was driving a 2017 Mazda 6 west on Navajo Road when she moved onto the north sidewalk and struck a pedestrian. She continued on and slammed into a tree in the center median.

The 14-year-old passenger was declared deceased at the scene. Two other children in the car, aged 1 and 8, were not injured.

The driver of the Mazda was hospitalized with a broken ankle. The pedestrian, only identified as an 18-year-old man, was transported with a concussion and an injured left arm.

The identities of the parties involved in the collision were not immediately released.

Authorities did not specify whether alcohol or drugs played any role in the accident.
