Sacramento County, CA – One person was airlifted to a hospital after a collision between two vehicles left both drivers injured in Sacramento County on Thursday afternoon, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The wreck took place on State Route 160 near Sherman Island Road at around 3:08 p.m. on April 30.

According to CHP, two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision on the highway. The circumstances that led up to the accident were yet to be determined.

Upon arrival at the scene, CHP and emergency crews located two heavily damaged vehicles and two injured men.

One of the men was flown to a hospital with severe injuries. The other patient, who had moderate injuries, was transported to the hospital by ground ambulance.

The identities of the motorists involved in the accident were not immediately released by the authorities.

Whether impairment or speed played any role in the accident was not confirmed.

Traffic was backed up on Highway 160 as crews worked to remove the wrecked vehicles from the scene.
