Between 2022 and 2023, Sacramento County’s total fatal and injury collision victims rose modestly from 11,157 in 2022 to 11,407 in 2023, reflecting a slight increase in serious car collisions year-over-year. Alcohol-involved victims also increased from 1,295 to 1,325, indicating continuing impaired-driving risk. Pedestrian victims grew from 592 to 653, and bicyclist victims from 484 to 529, while motorcycle victims declined from 643 to 565 over the same period. Speed-related serious crashes rose from 2,215 to 2,458. Hit-and-run victim counts increased as well, from 1,102 to 1,207, suggesting evasive behavior remains part of the collision profile. While the county’s ranking among California’s 58 counties dropped — from 3rd for total serious crashes in 2022 to 27th in 2023 — this change reflects relatively stable collision levels amid a broader statewide context where other counties experienced larger increases.
