Sacramento, CA – Authorities have released the identity of a pedestrian who was hit and killed by a vehicle in the Foothill Farms area of Sacramento earlier this month.
According to the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office, Dennis Dean Jr Davis, 48, was the victim of the collision that occurred near Elkhorn Boulevard and Diablo Drive, east of Hillsdale Boulevard on Monday, January 12.
The California Highway Patrol reported that Davis was struck by a single vehicle under unclear circumstances on Elkhorn Boulevard.
The Coroner’s Office said Davis died of injuries sustained in the accident. Records show that Davis was unhoused.
There were no details on the driver or vehicle involved in the accident.
The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the cause of the deadly crash.
In 2023, Sacramento reported 4,214 victims of fatal and injury collisions (combined killed and injured), placing it high among similar California cities for traffic harm. That year, 297 pedestrians and 237 bicyclists were among those killed or injured, and 454 collisions involved alcohol, highlighting serious safety issues for all road users. Speed-related collisions numbered 745, and there were 581 hit-and-run collisions. Overall, Sacramento’s traffic injury and fatality rate remains one of the highest per population in the state.
