Riverside County, CA – One person was killed and two others were airlifted after a crash that caused a vehicle to roll over near Anza in Riverside County on Wednesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The incident took place at about 7 a.m. March 11, on State Route 371 near Homestead Road.
According to the CHP, a woman was driving a 2006 Honda Insight south on SR-371 when, for unknown reasons, she moved into the path of oncoming vehicles. The Honda collided head-on with a northbound 2016 Toyota Tacoma.
The impact of the crash pushed both vehicles onto the east shoulder of the highway, where the Toyota rolled onto its side.
CHP and Cal Fire immediately responded to the scene after receiving reports of the accident.
Paramedics pronounced the driver of the Honda deceased at the scene. She was only identified as a 27-year-old woman from Palm Desert.
The driver of the Toyota, a 56-year-old man from Aguanga, and his passenger, an 11-year-old boy, were both flown to a local hospital. There was no update on the condition of the injured patients.
Preliminary reports indicate that driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs was not believed to have played any role in the incident.
Both sides of SR- 371 were shut down for hours as authorities investigated and cleared the scene.
The cause of the deadly collision remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
According to the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), Riverside County recently ranked 37th out of 58 counties for total fatal and injury victims (where 1st is the least safe).
A critical concern in the county is motorcycle safety; Riverside has previously ranked 6th worst in the state for motorcycle-involved injuries and fatalities. Alcohol also plays a significant role, with the county ranking 15th worst for “had been drinking” drivers aged 21–34. While 2024 and 2025 saw a gradual decline in overall fatalities – mirroring a statewide 6% drop – Riverside continues to struggle with distracted driving, ranking as the second-deadliest county in California for distracted driving fatalities in recent years.
