Riverside, CA – A 35-year-old man was killed and at least one other person was injured following a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 215 in Riverside early Monday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The fatal collision occurred on the southbound side of I-215, approximately 149 feet south of the University Avenue overpass, at around 1:24 a.m. on April 20, 2026.
The crash involved multiple vehicles, including a motorcycle, pickup trucks, and a semi-truck. A motorcycle was reported down in the HOV lane, while other vehicles became disabled and blocked several lanes, according to the CHP.
Authorities believe the incident developed into a chain-reaction collision as vehicles struck one another along the freeway.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office said Oscar Navarro, 35, of Phelan, was seriously injured in the crash at approximately 1:35 a.m. He was transported to Riverside Community Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries at about 2:12 a.m. At least one other person was injured in the collision, though details regarding their condition have not been released. No arrests have been reported.
Emergency crews responded to the scene and performed life-saving measures, including CPR, before transporting the injured to the hospital. Authorities issued a hard closure of all southbound lanes of I-215 and diverted traffic off at University Avenue while crews worked to clear the wreckage.
The crash caused major traffic disruptions in the area for several hours, with all lanes initially blocked before being gradually reopened later in the morning.
The incident remains under investigation.
