Santa Cruz County, CA. – A motorcyclist died in a crash early Sunday morning on Highway 17 in Santa Cruz County.
The collision was reported at about 5:20 a.m. north of Santas Village Road in Scotts Valley, according to the California Highway Patrol.
As per a preliminary investigation, a gray Nissan 370Z was heading northbound on the highway when, for an unknown reason, it crashed into a sign.
The vehicle continued in a northerly direction and hit a call box before coming to a stop in the left lane of northbound Hwy 17.
Moments later, a San Jose man riding a black 2025 Yamaha motorcycle northbound on the highway crashed into the back of the car at the scene.
First responders provided life-saving measures to the victim, but the rider was pronounced dead at the scene.
Northbound lanes of Highway 17 were closed for more than five hours following the crash. Traffic reopened around 11:20 a.m.
