Authorities said a 42-year-old man was driving a Nissan minivan when he attempted to pass another vehicle but ended up sideswiping it

San Marcos, CA.- Ricky Cruz, 22, was critically injured in a crash involving a suspected DUI driver last month in San Marcos.
According to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, the crash occurred on Cox Road and Mulberry Drive at around 3:23 p.m. August 20.
Authorities said a 42-year-old man was driving a Nissan minivan when he attempted to pass another vehicle but ended up sideswiping it.
The minivan then crashed head-on with an oncoming Lexus sedan driven by Cruz.
According to the report, Cruz was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The operator of the minivan was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
Police later arrested the driver of the minivan on suspicion of DUI and reckless driving.
The investigation is ongoing.
