Tucson, AZ.– A pedestrian was hit and killed by a vehicle in Tucson on Saturday night, according to the Tucson Police Department.

The accident was reported at around 9:15 p.m. August 30, on Wilmot Road.

According to police, Richard Daniel Townsend, 34, was walking across Wilmot Road outside of the crosswalk when he was hit by a northbound 2007 BMW.

Townsend was killed in the accident.

His family members were ahead of him crossing the road but none of them were hit.

Authorities reported that jaywalking is believed to have played a role in the incident.

The involved driver stayed at the scene and was not suspected of impairment.

The accident remained under investigation.
