Redwood City, CA – At least one person was severely hurt in a multi-vehicle collision involving a big rig that happened Tuesday afternoon in Redwood City, the California Highway Patrol reported.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the pileup took place around 6:27 p.m. on August 11, 2026, on northbound Highway 101, just south of the Whipple Avenue off-ramp.
A black BMW, a yellow and red DHL big rig, and a third car were involved in the collision.
A witness told authorities that the BMW weaved from the slow lane, then weaved into the lane where the big rig was and struck it. The third vehicle was also involved in the accident.
The BMW ended up wedged underneath the tractor-trailer.
At least one person sustained major injuries in the crash, as per the report.
Authorities closed the Nos. 3, 4, and 5 lanes of northbound Highway 101 just south of Whipple Avenue during the investigation.
