San Bernardino, CA – One person was killed following a collision involving a semi-truck and an articulated boom lift at an intersection in San Bernardino early Wednesday morning.
The deadly crash happened at about 3:35 on July 30 at the intersection of 5th Street and N Western Avenue.
The San Bernardino Police Department, along with the County Fire Department & AMR, responded to the scene and located a male party on the eastbound south side lanes of the street unresponsive.
Investigators learned that a semi-truck with a trailer was traveling eastbound on 5th Street when it crashed into an articulated boom lift.
Detectives said the lift with the platform was sticking out into the street with a male in the control box when it was hit by the trailer with the person on top.
The person, later identified as Rafael Diaz, a 51-year-old Moreno Valley resident, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The big rig driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
The eastbound and westbound lanes of 5th Street were closed from Herrington Ave to Western for several hours.
The incident remains under investigation.
