National City, CA.- A police officer was injured in a car accident that took place in National City early Thursday morning, according to the National City Police Department.

The incident took place in the 300 block of National City Boulevard at about 5 a.m.

A National City police officer was driving in the area when they swerved to avoid a pedestrian who ran into the roadway for unknown reasons.

The officer crashed into a parked vehicle, an electrical box, and slammed into a building.

Authorities reported that the officer sustained minor injuries.

Roads were shut down in the area as authorities worked to clear the scene.

The Gas & Electric responded to the scene and performed repairs on the destroyed electrical box.
