, AZ – A vehicle struck and killed a at a Phoenix intersection early Sunday morning, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

At around 3:25 a.m. January 18, authorities responded to reports of a collision on 22nd Avenue and Cactus Road.

According to a preliminary investigation, a man was attempting to walk across the roadway mid-block and outside of a crosswalk when he was hit by a truck traveling through the area.

Officers from the PPD and Phoenix Fire crews responded to the scene and located the involved vehicle and pedestrian.

The pedestrian was rushed to a hospital, where he was declared deceased. The victim's identity was not immediately released by the authorities.

The involved driver stayed at the scene and was cooperative with the investigators. Police reported that impairement and speed were unlikely factors in the collision.

The Phoenix Police Department is investigating to establish the cause of the accident.
