According to investigators, a vehicle traveling southbound on I-17 became disabled in the HOV lane after having a flat tire.

Phoenix, AZ – One person was hospitalized with major injuries after being involved in a chain-reaction collision on Wednesday morning in Phoenix, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
The wreck happened on Interstate 17 near Camelback Road shortly before 8:30 a.m. September 9.
According to investigators, a vehicle traveling southbound on I-17 became disabled in the HOV lane after having a flat tire.
Shortly after, a second driver slammed into the stopped vehicle and the impact set off a chain-reaction involving other vehicles.
According to DPS, the driver of the second vehicle was transported with serious injuries following the collision.
There were reports of non-life-threatening injuries to other involved parties.
The DPS also reported that DUI was believed to have played a role in the incident. The accident is still under investigation.
