Petaluma, CA – A bicyclist was flown to the hospital with major injuries after a crash at an intersection in Petaluma on Sunday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The collision occurred at the intersection of State Route 116 and Lakeville Highway at approximately 12:24 p.m.
According to the CHP, a group of five to seven cyclists traveling together when a cyclist was struck from behind by another cyclist. A total of 3 vehicles were involved in the incident.
One person sustained major injuries and was airlifted to Oak Children’s Hospital for treatment. No fatalities or arrests have been reported.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Emergency responders, including fire personnel, arrived at the scene and coordinated with an air ambulance, which initially attempted to land at the intersection before diverting to a nearby fire station for transport.
The crash caused significant traffic disruption, with both lanes of Lakeville Highway temporarily closed before reopening later in the afternoon.
The incident remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
