San Jose, CA. – A man was killed early Thursday morning after being struck by a car while crossing a street in San Jose, according to the San Jose Police Department.
Officers responded to the scene around 5:59 a.m. on Monterey Road near Edenview Drive, and found the pedestrian suffering from major injuries.
Despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators said the victim was crossing the street when he was hit by a silver 2001 Acura sedan traveling northbound.
The driver initially left the scene but later returned and cooperated with authorities.
The pedestrian's identity has not been released pending notification of family by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner's Office.
San Jose police noted the man was not in a marked crosswalk at the time of the collision.
The crash remains under investigation.
