Police Investigating Deadly Pedestrian versus RTA Bus Collision in Riverside

Riverside, CA. — A man was struck and killed Wednesday afternoon by a Riverside Transit Agency (RTA) in Riverside, authorities said.

The fatal collision happened around 4:20 p.m. near Chicago Avenue and 12th Street, according to the Riverside Police Department.

Responding officers found the critically injured. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries, police said.

Investigators determined that the man had stepped into the roadway from a sidewalk and stood in front of the bus as it pulled away from a stop. The bus struck him and came to a stop in the southbound lanes of Chicago Avenue.

The bus driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

The RPD's Major Accident Investigation Team is handling the case.
