Pedestrian Dies in Suspected DUI Crash on East California Avenue in Bakersfield

Bakersfield, CA. – A pedestrian died in a suspected DUI accident that happened Friday night in Bakersfield, the Bakersfield Police Department reported.

The incident occurred around 8:53 p.m. in the 700 block of East California Avenue near Baker Street.

Police said the pedestrian was walking outside of a marked crosswalk when he was hit by a driver traveling east on California Avenue. The victim was then struck by another car.

The pedestrian was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Both drivers stopped and remained at the scene after the crash.

The driver who first hit the pedestrian was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol, police reported.

The accident is under investigation by BPD.
