1 Killed, 2 Hospitalized after Car Collision at Rose Ave. and Wooley Rd. in Oxnard

Oxnard, CA – 73-year-old Eleanor Montes died, and two others were hospitalized after a two-vehicle collision that happened Monday afternoon at an intersection in Oxnard.

According to the Oxnard Police Department, the wreck took place around 1:14 p.m. on September 14, 2026, on Rose Avenue at Wooley Road.

Oxnard police and Emergency Medical Services responded to the area after receiving reports of the collision and found a 2024 Honda Accord and a 2015 Honda Civic with major crash damage.

A preliminary investigation revealed that 33-year-old Brian Sanchez of Oxnard was driving the Accord northbound on Rose Avenue when, for an unknown reason, he veered to the left as he drove through the intersection of Wooley Road.

Sanchez continued to drive north in the southbound lanes of Rose Avenue and collided head-on with the Civic, which was being driven south by 52-year-old Joanne Garcia, a resident of Oxnard.

Montes was a passenger in Garcia’s car. She sustained critical injuries and was taken to Ventura County Medical Center by ground ambulance. She later died from her injuries at 2:16 p.m.

Garcia and Sanchez were also transported to the hospital with unspecified injuries.

It was not immediately clear if speed, drugs, alcohol, or distracted driving played a role in the accident.

Oxnard PD’s Traffic Unit is investigating the collision.
