Oxnard, CA – The 15-year-old girl who was hit and killed by a vehicle on Vineyard Avenue near Oxnard earlier this month has been identified by the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Maya Diaz Morales, of Oxnard, died following the crash that occurred on Vineyard Avenue near Central Avenue at about 7:49 a.m. on July 18.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a pedestrian is believed to have been walking across Vineyard Avenue against a traffic signal when she was hit by an SUV. The accident was near Rio Mesa High School in the Strickland area.

The Oxnard Fire Department arrived at the scene within minutes and located the victim with critical injuries.

The victim, now identified as Maya, was rushed to a hospital, where she was declared deceased shortly after.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to assist her family with the funeral expenses.

The accident is under investigation and further details are expected to be released.
