Oxnard is one of the largest cities in Ventura County both by size and population. With the ever expanding population, the city has also seen a spike in the number of traffic collisions in the recent past. According to California Office of Traffic Safety reports, in 2023 Oxnard recorded 1312 injuries and fatalities due to traffic-related accidents and this was slightly lower than 2022 when 1380 people were victims of road accidents. Drunk driving continues to be a risk on Oxnard roads as seen in the OTS records with almost 14% of all accidents in 2023 being DUI-related. Other major causes included distracted-driving, unsafe passing and speeding. Highway 101 and Pacific Coast Highway are notably some of the highways regarded as dangerous in Oxnard due to the frequency of accidents occurring yearly. These accidents are mostly due to high volume of traffic, including large trucks. However, driver discipline can play a major role in improving road safety on major roadways in Oxnard.
