Camp Pendleton North, CA – One person was seriously injured following a multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 5 North late Wednesday night in Camp Pendleton North, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Authorities responded to reports of a traffic collision involving multiple vehicles that were blocking three lanes of the freeway.
According to CHP reports, a white Honda sedan reportedly caused the collision, which involved a gray Toyota Camry, a white Nissan, a black vehicle, and at least three other cars. Investigators said the crash may have occurred due to an active Border Patrol checkpoint in the area that caused traffic to quickly back up.
One person sustained major injuries in the collision and was said to be conscious and breathing.
Fire crews requested an airship to assist with medical transport.
Multiple tow trucks were called to the scene to remove the damaged vehicles, and several lanes were blocked while emergency crews worked to clear the wreckage.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
