A black Chevrolet Colorado pulling a trailer collided with a white SUV under unclear circumstances.
The pickup truck veered off the roadway and hit a tree on the right shoulder.
Multiple motorists were stopped at the scene to offer help before first responders arrived.
At least one person sustained serious injuries in the accident. The patient was taken to Sutter Roseville Medical Center by air ambulance for treatment.
The report said a drunk driver rammed through a road closure near the scene as officers were investigating the initial crash. It was unclear if that driver was arrested.
Authorities are investigating the collision.
