According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident was reported around 9:39 p.m. on southbound Interstate 680, just south of the Gregory Lane off-ramp.
A car was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed when it collided with another vehicle.
Firefighters and paramedics responded to the scene.
One person was taken to John Muir Health Walnut Creek Medical Center with major injuries, including lacerations to the right leg and knee cap.
Caltrans was requested to dispatch a sweeper to help clear debris from the crash that was spread all over the traffic lanes.
All southbound traffic lanes were shut down from about 9:50 p.m. to around 11:37 p.m. following the collision.
CHP officers are investigating the accident.
