Delano, CA. – One person died, and three others were injured in a suspected DUI collision that happened Wednesday afternoon at an intersection in Delano.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred around 3:38 p.m. at Cecil Avenue and Wallace Road.
Investigators said the crash involved a 2004 Toyota Camry and a 2016 Chevrolet box truck.
The Camry was traveling southbound on Wallace Road approaching Cecil Avenue at about 60 mph. At the same time, the truck was heading eastbound on Cecil, approaching Wallace at about 55 mph.
Police said the driver of the Camry ran a stop sign at the intersection and crashed into the left side of the truck. Cecil Avenue is not regulated by a stop sign.
Emergency personnel responded to the scene and pronounced the right front passenger of the Camry at the scene.
The driver and left rear passenger of the Camry were taken to Kern Medical with moderate to severe injuries.
The driver of the truck was taken to a hospital in Delano with moderate injuries.
CHP officers said alcohol was a contributing factor but did not give more details.
The intersection was closed in all directions for about four hours following the crash.
