San Mateo County, CA – A California Highway Patrol officer was injured Monday afternoon in a motorcycle accident in San Mateo County, according to the CHP.
The accident happened around 2:15 p.m. on September 8 on Interstate 280 just south of Alpine Road.
CHP said the CHP officer had responded to a report of an electric leaf blower between two lanes, south of Page Mill Road, and had initiated a traffic break.
As the lanes were closed, the officer turned on their emergency lights on their CHP motorcycle, when a 2026 Tesla Model Y crashed into the motorcycle.
The officer was ejected from the motorcycle. They sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the accident.
The Tesla driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigators. Officers were looking into whether the driver was using Tesla driver assistance during the accident.
The accident closed several southbound lanes of I-280 for hours.
The CHP is investigating the accident.
