Oceanside police said Vice President JD Vance was in Oceanside attending a wedding over the weekend and left on an aircraft from Camp Pendleton.
A motorcycle officer who was part of the VP's escort was returning to the station when they were struck by a car.
The officer was taken to an area hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries and released later in the day.
The driver of the car involved stopped and remained at the scene.
The accident forced the closure of all lanes of eastbound SR-76 at the I-5 connector and the east and westbound onramps to the northbound I-5 and the northbound I-5 off-ramp to westbound SR-76.
