Newman, CA – One person was killed in a two-vehicle collision involving a semi-truck early Monday morning on Interstate 5 near Newman, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The fatal crash was reported at approximately 2:26 a.m. on southbound Interstate 5 just north of the West Stuhr Road off-ramp.
CHP logs indicate the incident involved a van and a semi-truck. The driver of the semi reported that the van had rear-ended the truck. The collision occurred near construction-related lane closures. The slow lane and portions of the roadway were already restricted at the time of the crash.
Emergency crews, including firefighters and ambulance personnel, responded to the scene. One person suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead. Authorities have not released the victim’s identity pending notification of next of kin.
The crash prompted the closure of the No. 2 lane near the scene while emergency personnel worked the incident. All lanes were reopened by approximately 5:09 a.m.
