Monterey County, CA. – One person was killed Sunday night in a head-on collision on Espinosa Road between Salinas and Castroville, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash was reported around 7:30 p.m. on Espinosa Road just south of Rodgers Road.

CHP Monterey announced that the roadway was closed in both directions between State Route 183 and Christensen Road to allow officers to investigate the scene, advising drivers to use State Route 156 as an alternate route.

One vehicle was positioned in the eastbound lanes and another in the westbound lanes, with debris — including broken parts and shattered glass — scattered across the roadway.

CHP confirmed the crash involved a head-on impact.

A woman from Salinas died in the incident.

Authorities have not released information on how many occupants were in each vehicle or whether additional injuries occurred.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
