Middletown, CA – A pedestrian was killed early Wednesday morning after being struck by a vehicle on Interstate 5 in the Middletown area, authorities said.

Investigators said an unidentified adult male pedestrian was in the freeway lanes when he was struck by a Toyota Prius traveling northbound.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and pronounced the man dead.
The driver of the Prius remained at the scene and cooperated fully with investigators, CHP officials said.
A toxicology examination will be conducted by the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office to determine whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the incident.
The circumstances surrounding how the pedestrian entered the freeway remain under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
