Fresno County, CA – A man in his 80s is dead following a two-vehicle traffic collision in Caruthers Friday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The deadly crash happened at 1:31 p.m. at 3144 W Elkhorn Avenue near Caruthers and involved a smaller pickup truck and a semi-truck with a silver trailer
According to the CHP, the pickup truck driver was pulling onto Elkhorn Avenue from the Elkhorn Market when it collided with the semi, which was traveling westbound on Elkhorn Avenue.
CHP said the semi-truck driver tried to avoid the pickup but collided. The semi-truck overturned after the impact and spilled the almonds that were in the trailer.
Authorities said the truck driver, a man in his 80s, was killed in the collision. The wife of the deceased driver and the driver of the semi were hospitalized with minor injuries.
The crash remains under investigation and no additional details are available at this time.
