Cottonwood, AZ – One person was killed in a traffic crash involving a moped and a car at a Cottonwood intersection Wednesday morning, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS).

The deadly crash happened at the intersection of Highway 260 and Del Rio Drive on August 27.

According to the DPS, a gray passenger car, operated by a 17-year-old, was traveling eastbound on 260 and turned left onto Del Rio Drive on a red light.

DPS said a 76-year-old Camp Verde man on a moped going westbound, also ran the red light, and crashed into the passenger side of the gray car.

The man was ejected from the moped and was pronounced died at the scene. His name was not immediately released.

DPS said the teen driver was cited for an illegal left-turn at a red light, and failure to yield on a left turn at an intersection.

The incident remains under investigation.
