According to Caltrans, Mahdi was involved in the accident around 1:30 a.m. in a construction zone on Highway 4.

Contra Costa County, CA. – 39-year-old Mahdi Khorram, a Caltrans employee, died after he was struck by a construction vehicle early Wednesday morning in Martinez.

According to Caltrans, Mahdi was involved in the accident around 1:30 a.m. in a construction zone on Highway 4.

The worker was struck by an asphalt truck, leading to his death.

Caltrans reported that Mahdi was based in Concord and started his career at Caltrans in 2023 as a transportation engineer – construction inspector.

“Mahdi was more than a colleague – he was a valued member of our Caltrans family.” Caltrans Director Dina El-Tawansy said.

Flags were lowered to half-staff at the State Capitol, Capitol Annex Swing Space, and all Caltrans buildings in honor of the fallen employee.
