Madera County, CA – A 21-year-old driver died after he ran a stop sign and was broadsided by another vehicle Friday morning at an intersection in Madera County.
The wreck occurred around 6 a.m. on July 31, 2026, at Avenue 14 and Road 16.
According to authorities, the 21-year-old Madera man was driving a 2002 Pontiac Firebird south on Road 16, and a 57-year-old man was driving a 2019 Lincoln Navigator west on Avenue 14.
Avenue 14 has the right-of-way, and Road 16 has stop signs at the intersection.
Investigators said the Pontiac driver failed to yield and entered the intersection, where the Lincoln crashed into the left side of the Pontiac. Both vehicles veered off the roadway and came to a stop in a nearby cornfield.
The 21-year-old man was rushed to the hospital with major injuries, but later died while receiving treatment.
The driver of the Lincoln was not injured.
Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
