CHP officers responded to the scene after a witness reported that a black sedan swerved across traffic lanes, hit the center divider, and overturned onto its side.
Los Angeles, CA – One person died in a traffic collision that happened Monday night on Interstate 5 in the Sunland area of Los Angeles, authorities reported.
The accident took place around 10:41 p.m. on September 7, 2026, on the southbound Golden State (5) Freeway near Sunland Boulevard.
CHP officers responded to the scene after a witness reported that a black sedan had swerved across traffic lanes, hit the center divider, and overturned onto its side.
The officers found at least two vehicles involved in the crash.
One person was pronounced dead at the scene.
It was unclear if any other person was injured.
A Lexus with major front-end damage and a Chevrolet Spark with major front-end and left side damage were towed away from the scene.
Investigators closed the Nos. 1, 2, 3, and HOV lanes following the crash. The lanes were reopened just after 5 a.m. Tuesday.
