Between 2021 and 2023, Los Angeles saw marked shifts in serious collision statistics. In 2021, the city reported 11,202 victims killed or injured in fatal and injury collisions, ranking 13th among similar California cities. By 2022, that count decreased to 8,944 victims, and in 2023 it declined further to 8,116 victims, indicating an overall reduction in reported serious crash involvement over the period. Alcohol-involved victims fell from 2,033 in 2021 to 1,676 in 2022 and 1,508 in 2023, and motorcycle crash victims declined from 712 to 605 and then 553. Pedestrian and bicyclist victims also trended downward modestly. Despite these decreases in collision counts, fatal outcomes remained high, with 336 traffic deaths in 2023, including a large share of pedestrians, and fatal collisions rising about 8 % from 2022 to 2023, reflecting persistent traffic safety challenges amid declines in overall serious collisions. These patterns suggest evolving risk exposures and the continued need for targeted safety interventions.
