Los Alamos, CA – A woman was hurt in a crash with a big rig on Highway 101 near Los Alamos on Wednesday morning.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the crash took place at around 7 a.m. March 11, in the northbound lanes of the highway at Palmer Road.

Preliminary reports indicate that the collision involved a big rig truck pulling double dump trailers and a Volkswagen Jetta. Details on how the two collided were not immediately available but authorities reported that fog may have been a factor in the incident.

The California Highway Patrol and emergency crews, including the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, responded to the site of the accident.

The woman who was operating the Volkswagen was transported by AMR ambulance to Marian Regional Medical Center in Santa Maria for treatment of moderate injuries. Her identity was not released by the CHP.

The driver of the truck was not injured and stayed at the scene of the collision.

The accident caused a closure of the northbound lanes of Highway 101 as CHP investigated the crash and medical personnel attended to the involved parties. As of 8:15 a.m., all lanes had been reopened.

The California Highway Patrol is looking into evidence and information gathered at the scene as they work to establish the exact circumstances of the crash.

Vulnerable road users were also significantly affected: 32 motorcycle riders, 41 pedestrians, and a notably high 131 bicyclists were among those killed or injured in traffic crashes. Particularly concerning were age‑specific categories, with 9 pedestrians aged 65 and older and 9 bicyclists under age 15 included in the counts. In terms of collision patterns, 46 speed‑related crashes, 46 nighttime fatal/injury collisions, and 47 hit‑and‑run incidents were recorded, underscoring persistent risks from risky driving behaviors throughout the county.
