Long Beach, CA – The 71-year-old woman who was hit and killed by a vehicle last week in Long Beach has been identified by authorities.
Kathleen Banks died at a hospital after the accident that happened around 4:50 a.m. on June 3, 2026, at Pacific Coast Highway and Pacific Avenue.
According to the Long Beach Police Department, Kathleen was walking southbound in the east crosswalk of PCH against a red light when she was hit by a Chevrolet Malibu sedan traveling west on PCH.
Kathleen was rushed to a hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
The 19-year-old Long Beach resident driving the car stopped and remained at the scene.
Authorities said speeding, DUI, and distracted driving did not appear to be contributing factors.

Long Beach, CA. – A woman died after being struck by a car on Wednesday morning in Long Beach.
According to the Long Beach Police Department, the accident happened around 4:50 a.m. on Pacific Coast Highway near Pacific Avenue.
A woman was walking southbound in the east crosswalk on PCH and was hit by a 2019 Chevrolet Malibu being driven westbound by a 19-year-old Long Beach resident. Investigators believe the woman was walking against a red light when she was hit.
Long Beach Fire Department personnel transported the woman to a local hospital.
Sadly, the woman succumbed to her injuries while receiving treatment.
The woman was not immediately identified.
The driver remained at the scene to cooperate with the police investigation
Police say excessive speed, impaired driving and distracted driving are not believed to be factors in the accident.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
