Long Beach, CA – 81-year-old Richard Brown died after a collision involving a van and an SUV Monday morning at an intersection in Long Beach, the Long Beach Police Department reported.
According to LBPD, the wreck transpired around 8:10 a.m. on July 20, 2026, at Wardlow Road and Lakewood Boulevard.
LBPD officers, Long Beach firefighters, and paramedics responded to the scene.
Paramedics attempted life-saving measures on Brown, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a 1998 Chevrolet van was heading south on Lakewood Boulevard when it made a left turn onto eastbound Wardlow Road. The van collided with a 2024 Ford Bronco at the intersection. After the first impact, the van accelerated and hit a tree on the south sidewalk of Wardlow Road.
Authorities said the driver of the Bronco stopped and remained at the scene.
Investigators believe speed may have contributed to the crash.
