Laytonville, CA– One person was killed in a multi-vehicle collision that happened on Highway 101 near Laytonville in Mendocino County on Monday night, according to the authorities.
At around 9:25 p.m. January 26, the California Highway Patrol responded to reports of a crash south of Rattlesnake Summit.
Through investigation at the scene, it was determined that a Ford Escape was traveling southbound on the highway when it drifted across the double yellow lines and got into a sideswipe collision with a Chevrolet Silverado. The Ford also crashed with a Freightliner big rig in the northbound lanes.
The Ford came to a rest across the double yellow lines while the Chevrolet slammed into a dirt embankment and came to a rest on its side.
The driver of the Ford was killed in the crash. The identity of the deceased motorist was unavailable at the time of the report.
A passenger in the Chevrolet was transported to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
No further details on the crash were immediately released. The California Highway Patrol officers are still investigating to establish the circumstances of the crash.
