According to preliminary reports, the collision involved a motorcycle and a white truck. The motorcyclist was traveling westbound on SR-78 when the motorcycle collided with the truck under circumstances that remain unclear.
The rider sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were immediately reported, and there was no information indicating any arrests in connection with the crash.
The cause of the collision has not yet been determined as authorities continue to examine the events leading up to the incident.
Emergency crews responded to the scene, including deputies from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office and personnel from California State Parks, who assisted with traffic control. Tow services were also dispatched to remove the involved vehicles.
The crash led to a SigAlert being issued for the area near SR-78 and San Felipe Road, causing significant traffic disruptions. One-way traffic control was implemented, and lanes remained affected for several hours before all lanes were fully reopened later in the afternoon.
The incident remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
