Cotati, CA.- Juan Chavez, 26, of Petaluma, has been identified as the passenger killed in a suspected drunk driving crash in Cotati on Thursday, according to the Sonoma County Coroner's Office.
At about 11:25 p.m. November 11, a woman driving a Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling southbound on Stony Point Road when she lost control on a curve.
The Tahoe drifted off the roadway and slammed into a tree just south of W Sierra Avenue.
According to California Highway Patrol, Chavez was a passenger in the Tahoe and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Tahoe driver, Angel Torres, 23, of Petaluma, was transported to Providence Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for treatment of major injuries.
She was determined to have been driving while impaired and was expected to be booked on DUI charges after being released from the hospital.
The CHP is investigating the accident.
