According to the Indio Police Department, the collision happened near Indio Boulevard, just west of Fred Waring Drive at around 10:32 p.m. on April 23.
Authorities reported that a woman was struck by a freight train passing through the area. It’s unclear why the pedestrian was on the tracks when she was hit.
Indio police officers immediately responded to the scene and located the woman on the tracks.
The victim was confirmed deceased at the site of the accident. The victim’s name and age were not immediately released.
No other injuries were reported by the occupants of the train.
