Half Moon Bay, CA – A teenager riding an e-bike was hit and killed by a vehicle on Highway 1 in Half Moon Bay on Monday afternoon.
The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office reported that the incident happened at about 12:15 p.m. February 9, near Terrace Avenue.
According to a preliminary investigation, a 16-year-old boy was riding an electric bike in the area when he was involved in a crash with a box truck. No details were provided on how the collision happened.
The deputies, who immediately responded to the scene, performed life-saving measures on the boy, who was found in critical condition.
The victim was then transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. The boy’s identity is yet to be released by the authorities.
The operator of the box truck was at the scene and cooperated with the investigators. Impairement was not suspected to have been a factor in the incident, the sheriff’s office reported.
Authorities are still conducting an investigation to establish the exact cause of the deadly e-bike accident.
