Medical Examiner Identifies Woman Killed in Wrong-Way Collision on 8 Freeway in San Diego

San Diego, CA. – The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the woman who died early Thursday morning in a wrong-way collision as 66-year-old Greysi Olimpia Rivas.

The accident was reported around 2:52 a.m. on the eastbound 8 Freeway near College Avenue.

Rivas, a resident of El Cajon, was driving a Mini Cooper sedan eastbound on the freeway when she collided head-on with a BMW SUV that was allegedly traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of the freeway.

Paramedics pronounced Rivas dead at the scene. Her cause of death was determined to be blunt force injuries, according to the medical examiner.

San Diego, CA.- One person was killed in a wrong-way collision in San Diego early Thursday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The incident took place on I-8 near College Avenue at about 2:52 a.m.

The CHP reported that a BMW SUV was traveling the wrong way when it collided head-on with an oncoming Mini Cooper.

A woman in the Mini Cooper was killed in the crash.

The suspect operating the BMW was rushed to a hospital and was later arrested on suspicion of DUI.

The eastbound lanes were shut down as authorities worked to clear the scene.

An investigation into the collision is ongoing.
